Women from the Chimba empower themselves after completing the women’s entrepreneurship support programme.
The initiative, promoted by CRAMSA and implemented by Fundación Recrea, is part of the Women´s Circle Programme (Programa “Círculo de Mujeres”) aimed at more than 100 women from various transitory neighborhoods in Antofagasta and Calama, which seeks to promote women’s self-empowerment in contexts of vulnerability.

“This training provided us with knowledge in many ways. It helped us to formalise our small businesses, to believe in ourselves and in our capabilities”, said an excited Ana Escobar, one of the 15 entrepreneurs from the Luz Divina de La Chimba camp in Antofagasta, who received her diploma after completing the first cycle of the Women’s Entrepreneurship Support Programme.
The initiative, developed by Fundación Recrea together with CRAMSA, promotes the training and strengthening of entrepreneurial skills in a group of women from various transitional neighbourhoods in Antofagasta to support their economic independence and empowerment.
“We are proud to see these entrepreneurs who, thanks to their own efforts, are today moving out of La Chimba into the world, successfully achieving a positive change in their lives and becoming socially and economically empowered. For CRAMSA, promoting this initiative is a clear contribution that helps create social value in the region,” said CRAMSA’s Corporate Affairs Manager, Hugo Lecaros.
The pilot version of the programme gave the women entrepreneurs the opportunity to take part in classes on Finance, Social Media and Marketing, Business creation, Administration and Project Application, and more. Additionally, they received psycho-educational workshops on empowerment and personalised coaching sessions held on a monthly basis for each one of them.
“I am glad that these women have been able to have this opportunity for entrepreneurship. Thanks to CRAMSA and Recrea for carrying out this work with the women of La Chimba, for trusting them and their abilities”, adds Susana Véliz, a renowned social leader in the sector.
In turn, Recrea Foundation’s Sustainability Manager, María José Martinic, highlighted the work carried out during the four months of the programme, “which will continue in the next cycle until February, supporting the entrepreneurs who received professional services to manage their social networks, formalise their businesses or control the management of their processes”.
More empowerment, less vulnerability
The Women’s Entrepreneurship Support Programme is part of “Círculo de Mujeres”, an initiative developed by Fundación Recrea, with the support of CRAMSA, benefiting over 100 women from several transitory neighbourhoods in Antofagasta and Calama, by developing actions to prevent, address and repair gender-based violence.
“Círculo de Mujeres” seeks to increase women’s empowerment and lessen their vulnerability, contributing positively to the quality of life of the people of the Antofagasta Region. “
