Training begins for the project “La Chimba air gardens”.

The initiative will contribute to the economic sustainability of the neighbourhood, as highlighted by the executive director of Fundación Recrea, Alejandra Stevenson.

Along with the residents, the training process of the project ,Aerial gardens “Huertos aéreos de La Chimba” began, an initiative that will allow the members of the temporary settlement “Luz Divina” grow vegetables in a collective and sustainable manner for their own consumption and / or commercialisation.

The programme, promoted by CRAMSA and executed by Gota and Fundación Recrea, considers the implementation of a high-rise structure located at the intersection of the neighbouring passages, and encourages the process of community cultivation in small spaces. The project also has a modern control and remote operation system, powered by solar energy, a pioneer in this type of cultivation.

“We are very happy that the residents have been able to start the training process that will allow them to acquire the skills they need to be able to grow the crops. It is an innovative project with a high social impact that will also implement state-of-the-art technology to facilitate its operation. This is a very important initiative for our company that hopefully we will inaugurate very soon in order to continue contributing the quality of life of the inhabitants of the sector”, said Hugo Lecaros, CRAMSA’s Corporate Affairs Manager.

The initiative will contribute to the economic sustainability of the neighbourhood, as highlighted by the executive director of Fundación Recrea, Alejandra Stevenson. “The programme was created in conjunction with CRAMSA to develop gardens with low water and electricity consumption, taking advantage of an aerial structure, considering that in a camp there is no land available for this purpose. Families will have the opportunity to work in groups and in shifts so that everyone can participate,” she said.

The members of the La Chimba community celebrate the start of this project that seeks to strengthen community relations in the community. “For us it is very significant that this project is being developed in a groundbreaking way here in Antofagasta, in the La Chimba sector, because we believe in our community and that this project will bear fruit that will allow us to continue to grow,” said Susana Véliz, a social leader of La Chimba.

The initiative is part of the collaborative agreement between CRAMSA and Fundación Recrea to strengthen the principles of sustainable development and training of vulnerable populations, through the promotion of programmes and activities that contribute positively to the quality of life of the inhabitants of the cities of Antofagasta and Calama.
