CRAMSA provides aerial garden infrastructure to residents of La Chimba

A pioneering initiative in the Antofagasta region will allow the community of the transitory neighborhood “Luz Divina” to grow vegetables in a domestic and sustainable way

After extensive work, CRAMSA delivered to the Luz Divina transitory neighborhood in La Chimba, the facilities of the “Huertos Aéreos” project, an initiative that will allow residents to grow vegetables in a community and sustainable way.

The work carried out together with Fundación Recrea included the construction of a tall structure over the community bakery, to facilitate the cultivation process in reduced spaces. The enclosure is implemented with state-of-the-art technology that optimizes lighting and water use, equipped with a modern remote control and operation system, a pioneer in the country in this type of urban gardens.

“For CRAMSA, the social impact that this initiative will have is a satisfaction, which will allow the residents of La Chimba, not only to acquire knowledge about domestic cultivation, but also to plant their own vegetables, which benefits their health, family economy, and therefore what is not their future, if they are commercialized, generating a new source of income”, highlighted Peter Hatton, General Manager of CRAMSA.

For her part, the social leader of La Chimba, Susana Véliz -who received the facilities on behalf of the residents- highlighted the contribution that the project represents to the sustainability model that contributes to strengthening community relations.

“In the neighborhood we have difficulties accessing water and this garden requires a very low consumption for its operation. That is why it is a great initiative to continue growing in community. We are happy for the interest that it has generated in the neighbors who want to participate and learn, and today we are eager to see its fruits”, explained Véliz.

The initiative contemplates the development of training and technical support to users for the correct learning of cultivation without soil, by the agronomist Leonardo Véliz, from the collaborating company Gota, which set up the orchard.

“We have implemented this pilot with an NFT system for hydroponics 2.0, a pioneer in the region for high-density urban production. It is a solution that responds to the needs of the environment, promoting agriculture close to people”, said Veliz.

“Huertos Aéreos de La Chimba” is part of CRAMSA’s community relations and sustainability strategy, which seeks to contribute positively to the quality of life of the inhabitants of the Antofagasta region.e los habitantes de la región de Antofagasta.
