The congress addressed desalination and water reuse technologies, practices, and experiences from around the world.
CRAMSA, the company behind the “Aguas Marítimas” project aimed at increasing water availability in the Antofagasta Region, participated in the World Desalination Congress 2022 held from October 9th to 13th.
The event took place at the International Convention Center in Sydney, Australia and is organized every two years by the International Desalination Association (IDA), a non-profit organization that brings together the global desalination and water reuse community, including scientists, developers, engineers, consultants, regulators, end-users, media, and researchers from governments, corporations, and academia.
Participation in the congress allowed attendees to meet world leaders and providers in the desalination industry, learn from their experiences, and get insights into new trends, solutions, and technologies in desalination and water reuse to ensure the sustainability of water resources.
Representing CRAMSA at the congress were the Executive Vice President, Gustavo Contreras; the Chief Executive Officer, Peter Hatton; the Corporate Affairs Manager, Hugo Lecaros; the Engineering Manager, Jon Ander de Quintana, and the Board Advisor, Felipe García-Huidobro.
The congress featured over 300 presentations on various topics. Regarding this, CEO Peter Hatton noted, “On the one hand, it was surprising to see that Chile is often mentioned as one of the most affected by drought due to climate change worldwide, which imposes a significant challenge for our country to act promptly, a task in which CRAMSA is committed.”
Hatton added, “We were also able to present our project to various experts, who recognized it as an innovative initiative that comprehensively and effectively addresses the issue of water scarcity. This left us very pleased and motivated to continue working towards its realization.”
The International Desalination Association (IDA) works as an NGO to promote solutions to water scarcity. It has recognized consultative status with the United Nations and is a member of the UN Water’s Special Framework for Water Scarcity in Agriculture (WASAG).
