CRAMSA at EXPONOR 2024: Driving the Sustainable Future of the Antofagasta Region
With a positive evaluation, CRAMSA concluded its participation in the leading mining and energy convention in Chile and Latin America, reaffirming its commitment to the sustainable development of the industry.
For the second time, CRAMSA was present at EXPONOR, showcasing the advancements and optimizations of its desalination project “Aguas Marítimas.” Throughout the event, the company actively participated in seminars and business meetings, strengthening ties with authorities and the industry.
“Desalination is key to building a more sustainable mining sector, especially in a region so close to the sea like ours,” highlighted the Minister of Mining, Aurora Williams, during her visit to CRAMSA’s stand.
Sebastián Videla, a representative for the Antofagasta Region, also praised the initiative, emphasizing its positive impact on regional development and job creation: “This project is essential for more sustainable mining and the future of the region. As a member of the Mining Commission in the Chamber of Deputies, I will closely monitor its progress.”
Strengthening Bonds and Commitments
Participation in EXPONOR provided the CRAMSA team with a valuable opportunity to connect with partners, stakeholders, suppliers, and the community, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and innovation.
“This project is of impressive magnitude, and for suppliers, it has been a great opportunity to learn about it and share our experiences,” commented Igor Scrofft, Commercial Manager of Metalúrgica FAT.
Leandro Ruiz, Site Manager of Veolia Water Technologies & Solutions, added: “I have followed this project with great interest. It is the largest desalination initiative in Latin America, and it is very encouraging that a Chilean company like CRAMSA is leading it, with a clear focus on sustainability.”
The community also expressed its stance. Glenda Tapia, a resident of the region, noted: “We live in a desert area with severe water problems, so a solution like this is very positive.”
Positive Balance and Future Prospects
Peter Hatton, General Manager of CRAMSA, was pleased with the participation in the fair: “We are very happy. We presented our project to authorities, suppliers, and the community, sharing ideas on innovation and sustainability for the mining industry. The reception was very positive, and our project will expand the water matrix of the Antofagasta Region, facilitating new sustainable developments.”
Corporate Affairs Manager Hugo Lecaros highlighted the project’s relevance as a catalyst for future initiatives: “Our project is key to promoting sustainability, facilitating, for example, the production of Green Hydrogen and supporting the National Lithium Strategy. Through an agreement with Albemarle, we will bring desalinated water to the Salar de Atacama, enabling more sustainable lithium production.”
Jon de Quintana, Engineering Manager of CRAMSA, appreciated the opportunity EXPONOR offered to address doubts and establish key contacts: “The fair allowed us to address common concerns about our project and establish contact with major engineering and technology companies that want to contribute their expertise to the development of engineering.”
With the “Aguas Marítimas” project, CRAMSA will significantly contribute to the water supply in the communes of Antofagasta, Sierra Gorda, and Calama, benefiting farmers, and industrial and mining sectors.
