Cesco Week 2024: CRAMSA Participates in Social Value in Mining Forum
The event highlighted the importance of contributing to the socioeconomic development of territories and generating environmental and community value.
With more than 400 attendees from the mining world, including authorities, academics, consultants, and industry executives, the twenty-seventh CESCO Week 2024 was held, organized by the Center for Copper and Mining Studies, one of the most important mining events globally.
On this occasion, CRAMSA participated in the VI Sustainability Seminar: “Social Value in Mining,” a forum that invited reflection on the importance of mining companies generating synergy between productivity and socioeconomic development in their operational territories, creating shared value.
The event featured a presentation by Rohitesh Dhawan, CEO of ICMM, who highlighted the role and opportunity that mining has to change people’s way of thinking. “We want to pursue the idea of being a mining industry where people want to produce and protect their countries, giving more value not only to what we produce but how we produce it. We aim to create prosperity in our operations, and when we partner with states and different areas, we can contribute by decarbonizing the economy and making modern life just the cherry on top. If there is something important we need to do, it is to take care,” Dhawan emphasized.
Regarding this, CRAMSA’s General Manager, Peter Hatton, emphasized that Chile’s great challenge lies in advancing sustainable development to improve the national industry’s competitiveness on a global level. “As a mining country, we must move towards leadership in sustainability issues. As a company, we apply the highest standards, both in the design of our desalination plant and throughout the distribution network, respecting the environment and communities,” he noted.
He added, “At CRAMSA, we believe in sustainable development and will make a concrete contribution towards more responsible mining by delivering desalinated water to the mining district of the Antofagasta Region through our ‘Aguas Marítimas’ project, which will positively impact the territory by providing an alternative to reduce continental water consumption.”
